An Eldorado Park couple accused in the death of their four-year-old daughter are scheduled to go on trial in the Gauteng Division of the High Court in Johannesburg from 5 October 2026, according to the National Prosecuting Authority.

The identities of the accused are being withheld to protect the couple’s surviving child. The father faces charges including murder, rape and child abuse. The mother faces charges including murder, failure to report sexual offences and child abuse. The charges are allegations that must be tested in court.

According to the NPA, the case stems from an incident on 6 August 2025. Prosecutors allege that the father assaulted and sexually abused the four-year-old while the mother was at work. Neighbours allegedly heard the child screaming and alerted police. The child was found unconscious, taken to hospital and later died.

The prosecution further alleges that the mother noticed injuries but failed to report the matter. The father is also accused of assaulting the couple’s three-year-old son in a separate incident in March 2025.

A pre-trial conference has been completed and Legal Aid South Africa representation arranged. The opening of the trial turns a case that has already raised acute questions about child protection into a formal High Court test of the prosecution’s evidence.
